Bus transportation for seniors
Senior citizens in need of a ride may call Hazel Crest’s Senior Dial-A-Ride service at 335-9600, Ext. 118. The Village’s Pace van includes a wheelchair lift to transport seniors and residents with disabilities. Seniors 60 years of age or older are eligible to use the bus service. There is no age limit for residents with disabilities.

The van will take seniors to and from the Senior Center, to medical appointments, grocery stores, and many other destinations. Each ride costs $2. (Rides to the Senior Center are free.)

The cut-off time to make next-day reservations is noon, the previous day. Advance reservations are suggested whenever possible to avoid missing the deadline. Please try to schedule medical appointments as soon as you get them. All calls must be made to the new dispatcher, Betty Thomas at 335-9600, Ext. 118.

Seniors leaving a phone message to reserve bus service are asked to state their destination for scheduling purposes.

A 10-ride bus ticket must be purchased from the Village in order to ride the bus. There is no limit to the number of destinations in a day as long as the schedule permits.

The first pick-up is at 8:15 a.m., Monday through Friday. The last return will be dropped off no later than 4:45 p.m. Passengers who are unable to board or leave the bus unassisted must be accompanied by a caregiver. Cost of caregiver is $2 per ride. A caregiver must be 18 years or older to assist a passenger. Persons under 18 are not allowed on the PACE Senior bus unless they are handicapped.

Seniors socializing
Senior Social Hour takes place every Monday from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Senior Center. Come in and enjoy Bid Whist and other fun games!

• Bingo is every Wednesday from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Drop-In Center of the Senior Center.

Senior line dancing
If it’s Friday, it’s time for to dance! Line dancing takes place every Friday at the Senior Center. Beginners’ class starts at 1:30 p.m.; Advance class begins at 2:30 p.m. It’s lots of fun and great exercise! The cost is $2 per class. Call Gwen Flagg at 335-9600, Ext. 115

Computer classes
Seniors who want to learn computer skills and navigate the internet may sign up for a free computer class on Tuesdays at 11 a.m. and at 12:30 p.m. in the Computer Lab of the Senior Center. The class is free for residents age 50 and up. Call Gwen Flagg at 335-9600, Ext. 115 to sign up. Registration is ongoing. Participants work at their own speed. Students may come in to practice when Lab is available.

Yoga/Meditation
Free yoga classes take place every Monday at 11 a.m. at the Senior Center. A meditation class directly follows at 12:15 in the Drop-In Room of the Senior Center. Yoga expert Pam Kobus is the instructor for both classes. Call Gwen Flagg at 335-9600, Ext. 115 to sign up.

Eligible for senior benefits?
Senior Benefit Screening is now available at the Senior Center. Find out what benefits you are eligible for based on a comprehensive questionnaire administered on-line at the Senior Center. Talk to servicemen over Skype
Residents with loved ones stationed overseas are welcome to use the free computer Skype located in the Senior Center. You can talk to your loved one face to face! For an appointment, call Gwen Flagg at 335-9600, Ext. 115.

Podiatrist visit
A podiatrist is now available each week at the Senior Center by appointment only. Call Gwen Flagg at 335-9600, Ext. 115 to sign up for the podiatrist. Medicare and non-HMO insurance accepted. Seniors are asked to bring their Medicare Card or private insurance card with them.

Prevent Diabetes
Residents are invited to attend the Stonebridge Diabetes Prevention and Support Group, “Power to Prevent,” a 12-month, life-changing course that teaches you how to prevent diabetes in children and adults. The program is free and meets on the fourth Saturday of each month, from 10 a.m. to noon, at the Drop-In Room of the Senior Center, located adjacent to the Village Hall.

Monthly Movie
The Senior Center hosts a monthly movie on the second Thursday of every month at 3 p.m. Free popcorn for everyone! To find out this month’s feature film, all Gwen Flagg at 335-9600, Ext. 115.

During the summer only, there will be weekly movies on Thursdays at 1 p.m. for ages 12 to 18, and again at 3 p.m. for ages 18 and up. Free popcorn for 3 p.m. movie viewers only.  Snacks for the 1 p.m. show are available with a donation to the Equipment Fund-raiser.

Women’s Support Group
Focus Ministries Women’s Support Group—a domestic violence prevention, protection, and support group for women only—meets on the third Saturday of each month, from 10 a.m. to noon, at the Drop-In Center Room of the Senior Center, located adjacent to the Village Hall. Females ages 12 and up are welcome to participate.

Drama Group
The Savard Drama Group meets for dramatic readings, poetry readings, and stage instruction on the third Thursday of the month starting at 1 p.m. at the Drop-In Center Room of the Senior Center. Call Gwen Flagg at 335-9600, Ext 115 to sign up.

Musical Production
The Summer School Musical Production and Show is open to all summer school students, junior high graduates, singers, dancers, rappers, musicians, actors and those who just want to help put their own musical show together. The program is free for students 12 to 18 years of age with parental consent.  Students meet every Friday at 11 a.m. at the Senior/Youth Activities Center. Gardening projects
This summer’s gardening projects include the front of the Senior/Youth Activity Center, satellite locations throughout the Village, and a Volunteer Community Garden. To grow your own garden and receive expert advice and direction from the Village Master Gardner, contact Gwen Flagg at 335-9600, Ext. 115 for information and details. Volunteers are welcome. Green thumbs are needed. Bring your own gloves, hat, sunscreen gardening tools, and sunny disposition. All ages are welcome to participate.  Join the movement to help combat juvenile diabetes by eating fresh vegetables, properly prepared, grown in our gardens.
