50/50 Sidewalk: Residents who have hazardous or deteriorated public sidewalk sections fronting their property may have them replaced with the Village sharing the cost. The Village identifies sidewalk to be replaced, contacts property owners, secures the contractor through competitive bids, and arranges for the work to be completed. The resident is responsible for 50% of the costs.
Brush Pick-Up: This seasonal program is conducted between April and October and allows each resident a once-monthly opportunity to dispose of tree trimmings and brush. Some conditions do apply. Click here for details.
Compost Facility: Open from April through November, this facility affords residents a place to dispose of yard waste. Any Hazel Crest or East hazel Crest resident with a valid village vehicle sticker may use the facility. Finished compost and wood chips are generally available and free of charge. Some conditions and certain operating hours do apply. Click here for details.
Parades / Associated Events: The Village Board of Trustees shall consider all applications for permits for parades or processions recommending approval, disapproval or modifications and will forward information to the Village Clerk for final action. No parade shall be allowed on any public way, nor shall any open-air public meeting be held in or upon any public way, until a permit in writing has been obtained from the Village Clerk. The application must be made at least 30 days prior to the proposed event. Click here for Requirements. Click here for Application.

Recycling Program: Residents are encouraged to help protect and conserve natural resources by recycling newspapers, plastic, glass, tin, and aluminum. Call your private scavenger service for more information.
Sewer Problems: Residents are encouraged to call the Village first when there appears to be a blockage in their sewer line. Village personnel will check the main sewer to determine the blockage location. If the sewer main is blocked, Public Works crews will clear the sewer line; a blockage in the service line is the residents responsibility. The Public Works Department has a list of qualified plumbers who are licensed to work in the Village.
Tornado Warning System: The Village of Hazel Crest has an active Emergency Management operation. A well-equipped operations center is staffed by Village personnel whenever a tornado watch is announced. If the watch is changed to a tornado warning, the warning will be sounded with a steady two-minute blast on each of the four Village sirens. These sirens are tested on the first Tuesday of every month. If they sound at any other time, watch the weather channel (34) for current information.
Water and Sewer Billing Procedures: As a homeowner (or renter whose bills appear in your name), you are responsible for paying for the water that you use as for the operation of the systems that bring clean water to you. Funds received are used exclusively to provide water and sewer service; Village government does not profit from providing and administering this service. Bills covering actual costs for combined water and sewer systems ($4.58/1000 gallons or a minimum charge of $21.75 each quarter), are mailed quarterly on the first of the month. Full payment is due the 21st of the month and late payments result in a 10% penalty. Non payment results in termination of water service and a declaration of "Unit for Habitation" for the house.
Water Line Repair: This is provided on an emergency basis. If water service line leaks occur between the watermain and the outside water shut-off, Village crews will make repairs, including restoration, at no cost to the resident.
Water Meter Repairs: Unless there is evidence of tampering or abuse, Village personnel will fix or replace malfunctioning or leaking water meters at no cost to the resident.
