Brush Pick-Up
As in past years, the Public Works crews will pick up brush and branches resulting from routine yard maintenance or tree trimming done by homeowners. The program is not intended as a means for homeowners to dispose of entire trees which may have been felled on private property, since no brush with a diameter larger than six inches will be picked up. Grass clippings and other bagged landscape waste will not be picked up with the brush. This type of material should be either left for removal by the private scavenger service or else dropped off at the Village compost facility. Homeowners wishing to participate in the brush pick-up program should have their brush on the parkway at 6:00 A.M. on the scheduled day. The material must be left neatly stacked at the curb or in the parkway in front of the home. The brush should be cut into lengths no more than eight feet long and it should not be tied in any way. It should be piled so that all the trunks face toward the street, ready to be inserted into the chipper. Brush that is piled in a tangled mess severely reduces the crew's ability to complete its scheduled route and it will not be picked up. Yard waste stickers are available from Shop & Save in Hazel Crest, Ebel's Ace Hardware in Homewood, and many other locations. No brush which is in containers can be picked up as part of this program. It is not unusual for residents to dispose of more brush than the crews can pick up in a single day. Residents are asked to be patient if removal is not completed on the scheduled day. As much as the Village would like to accommodate requests for pick up outside of the scheduled day, the Public Works crews must adhere to the established pick-up schedule in order to administer the program effectively and efficiently. It is important to keep the costs of this tax-supported program as low as possible. Question regarding Brush Pick-Up can be answered by the Public Works Department at 335-9600 ext. 200.
