  1. Never leave your cooking unattended.
  2. Turn off any cooking surface that is not in use.
  3. Turn pan handles inward to prevent bumps and spills.
  4. Wear short or tight fitting sleeves, or roll up long sleeves.
  5. Keep cooking areas free and clear of grease build-up.
  6. Keep flammable items and liquids, such as pot holders and cooking oils, at least three feet away from heat sources.
  7. Keep matching pan lids handy to suffocate a grease fire.
  8. Use pot holders and oven mitts for protection.
  9. Install a smoke detector on every floor of your home and check each one monthly.
  10. Identify your emergency phone numbers and post them by every telephone.
