Department of
Fire, Rescue, & Inspectional Services
|
| Within the Village of Hazel Crest, the Department of Fire,
Rescue, and Inspectional Services provides a large number of services
to the residents of the Village as well as the persons who visit our
community. These services impact the quality
of life within the Village and include fire suppression, emergency
medical services, code and inspectional services, fire prevention
programs, public education programs and in-service training. This
organization provides all of these services
with the combined effort of full and part-time employees.
The department
must continue to recruit and maintain both its career and part-time
employees in order to maintain the level of services
the residents have come to expect. These employees must be properly
trained and informed to deal with the variety of issues which face them
daily.
The department
must continue to grow and progress as we move into the twenty-first
century. Hazel Crest has a reputation as a leader and we want the
department to be one of the reasons for that recognition. As always,
this includes providing the best possible services
for all residents in a manner consistent with proper techniques and
care.
The Department of
Fire, Rescue, and Inspectional Services is charged with the
responsibility to save lives and prevent fires along with other equally
important issues. Each day, we strive to meet this obligation through
excellent service to those we serve and
protect.

Emergency Medical
Services
Hazel Crest has a very highly regarded paramedic program. Our
people regularly receive
commendations from the local hospitals for their work in the field on
critically ill or
injured persons.
Our two advanced life support ambulances transport to either
South Suburban Hospital in
Hazel Crest or Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey. Both facilities are
full-care
facilities with excellent emergency departments
In 1979, the village created the paramedic program and hired
the necessary personnel.
Along with the creation of the program, a fee structure for the use of
the paramedic
services was established. Residents using ambulance-related services
will be invoiced a
fee of $200.00. Non-residents are charged a fee based on the level of
service, the fee can
range between $250.00 to $300.00. These fees are used to maintain the
service, so that
when help is needed it can be provided.
